BACKGROUND

Bakgatla ba Mosetlha communities lodged the claims in respect of their lands which had been unlawfully expropriated from the Bakgatla ba Mosetlha by the Apartheid regime since the implementation of the defunct Native Land Act of 1913. A total claim of 39 farms was lodged with the Department of Land Affairs on the 30th November 1998 with all relevant information in the prescribed format as required by the Department. After all the relevant information was submitted, the process of verification by the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights commenced. The claim was gazetted and published in the Government gazette no. 30118 dated 03 August 2007.
